According to Charles Mayo "today, the only thing that is permanent is change". In this highly dynamic environment, ensuring ongoing accuracy in scientific publishing remains critical. As technology constantly changes, new publishing formats are revolutionizing the delivery and accessibility of scientific research. Several factors-severe budget constraints, a rise in research volume, and dramatic content growth-are driving the increase in electronic versions of traditional journals and the creation of online journals. These changes pose challenges, but also opportunities, to the publishing industry and researchers.
The growth of biomedical publications has been remarkable with more than 25000 biomedical journals currently. Authors from low-income countries have been marginalized by subscription-based journals; for example, a survey of six leading "international" medical journals found that only 6.5% of papers were authored by researchers from the developing world. Yet health problems are "no longer just local, national, or regional, they are global". And so a truly international journal would give authors from all countries the opportunity to discuss national problems that are of relevance to the global health community. The new era of open access journals have opened the wide gateway of opportunities for the researchers across the globe to visualize the scientific efforts being done in their fields of interest. This has helped the scientific community to come out of the discrepancy described above. Successful publications attracting attention of other researchers, stimulating new ideas, and becoming highly cited boost authors' research profile, strengthen positions of institutions supporting scientific productivity, and increase chances to get funding for future research studies.
We feel extremely proud to bring to your kind notice that International Journal of Health and Allied Sciences (IJHAS) has successfully completed two years of its commitment toward promoting the dissemination of scientific information through its quality-assured content and timely publication. Journal was launched in 2012 and since then it was only the journey of success. We have received an overwhelming response from the scientific community across the world in the form of 310 manuscripts submitted for the first year (2012) and 270 manuscripts submitted in the second year (2013) of its publishing. Acceptance rate for the first year was 36% and for the second year has been a stringent 15% only. The journal has till date 675 registered authors and 411 reviewers across the world. We have maintained the least possible time gap between submission to review and publication, which is the most critical component in any biomedical journals. With our advancement in the world of scientific publication, we are getting more matured in terms of maintaining the quality of manuscripts getting published and ensuring the satisfaction of authors and readers. The biggest strength of our journal is well disciplined and dedicated editorial board and a band of supportive and highly professional reviewers who can churn the manuscripts with all their scientific and critical viewpoints in a stipulated time frame.
The journal has been queued for PubMed Central indexing wherein the process should begin in another 6 months, which will add more credibility to the journal. Many articles have been accessed over 5000 times, and many recent articles also have been viewed more than 1000 times from all over the world. We want to take this opportunity to thank the publishers Medknow Publications for partnering in bringing out IJHAS and their professionalism and experience has helped us bring the journal to its current levels and I am sure this partnership will see many more milestones. We also thank all the reviewers for having spent valuable time of theirs for providing effective inputs to the manuscripts and making it more relevant and appealing to the scientific community.
To conclude, three biggest challenges for any author is to write what is worth publishing, to find honest people to publish it, and get sensible people to read it. IJHAS is working in a most efficient manner to overcome these challenges and emerging as a silver lining in the dark clouds.
